Cathy & Jose Cervantes
Cathy Cervantes - I felt the Lord calling me to serve Him in a country where He was little known. I came from Francesville, IN (ACCA) in 1977, to help teach Sunday School in Tecate Mexico, where bro Walter and sis. Helen Meister, bro. Slavko Igic, bro.Steve Sakach , and many other faithful believers had started a work sharing the gospel.
Jose Cervantes - I came to Tecate from the southern part of Mexico in 1978, hoping to pursue the American dream in the US. While in Tecate I heard the gospel of Jesus Christ, and became his follower. I was baptized in 1979, and in 1980, Cathy and I were married, and together, we have been serving the Lord here. We have over 50 believers in Tecate. Our believers have reached out and helped start churches in San Jose, Sonora, and Ixtlan, Michoacan.
Some of our biggest outreaches each year have been VBS in Tecate and San Jose. If you feel a desire to serve the Lord, we would invite you to participate.
Tecate hosts VBS the first week of August. Knowing Spanish is a big plus. We usually go door to door passing out invitations, pick up our 100 + kids in vans, pick-up trucks, cars, or whatever is available. Piano playing, assembling crafts, organizing, and working with children and youth are all useful talents in
this ministry. For several years sis Lori Greeninger has conducted a youth choir that rehearses after VBS; it has been a highlight for our young people. If anyone is interested in continuing this ministry, please contact us.
San Jose hosts VBS the second week of August. Usually attendance is around 400; so many are hungry
to hear the Word. The weather is very hot, and much help is needed to sing, cook, clean, teach, and
maintain crowd control.
If the Lord is calling you to help, we hope to hear from you!
