About Us
Who We Are
The Apostolic Christian Church Foundation, Inc. supports the Apostolic Christian Church (Nazarean) and its members.
The Apostolic Christian Church originated in Switzerland and was established in the 1830s by Swiss clergyman Samuel Froehlich. Initially named Evangelische Taufgesinnte, which translates to Evangelical Baptists, the group diverged from the established state church of Switzerland in two primary aspects:
- They were part of the Anabaptist movement, advocating for the baptism of believers rather than infants who lacked understanding of the faith.
- They adhered to a Peace tradition, akin to the Mennonites, promoting non-violent resolutions to political issues and abstaining from bearing arms in warfare.
The first members migrated to the United States in 1847, forming the initial Evangelical Baptist congregations in New York State. To avoid confusion with the already established Baptist denomination, the movement's name evolved from Evangelical Baptist to Christian Apostolic, and eventually to Apostolic Christian Church (Nazarean).
The Apostolic Christian Church Foundation is a non-profit entity established on February 28, 1952, by the trustees of the Apostolic Christian Church (Nazarean). The foundation seeks to create funds for spreading the gospel domestically and internationally, support isolated churches and congregations, finance church construction, develop and distribute educational materials and literature, represent member churches in legal and governmental affairs, and establish local committees to advance the foundation’s objectives.
Originally headquartered in Mansfield, Ohio, the organization relocated to Akron, Ohio in 1962, then to Tremont, Illinois in 1975, Richmond, Virginia in 1992, and finally Wooster, Ohio in 2016.
